Rubber Side Down

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Those of you in the Midland/Odessa area may want to pick up a copy of a new, local magazine entitled, Good Times, The Arts and Entertainment Guide of West Texas. But it is not just limited to West Texas as there are listings of events all over the state.

Lisa and I have what we expect to be a regular column in the rag called, ‘Rubber Side Down’. In case you don’t have access to the magazine, I have included a pdf of the article here.

Let us know what you think.

Guard Your Peace

Monday, December 4th, 2006

This is an unusual article in the sense that it really doesn’t have anything to do with business.  I didn’t start out to right an article like this, but true to the creative process, I just started writing and this is what resulted.  I trust that what I wrote was the message that was supposed to be delivered, although I personally questioned it and contemplated not publishing it.  Ultimately, I felt strongly that it was not my place to argue, but rather to just follow the directions I had been given.  So that is exactly what I did!

Managing Your Emotions

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006
Fulfillment is what we are looking for out of our businesses, not excitement. But it is easy to mistakenly confuse the two. One of the greatest character traits of an Entrepreneur is to be the calm in the stormthrough the great times, but also through the tough times.

This article offers an inside perspective on a huge challenge faced by Entrepreneurs–Managing Your Emotions. It explores why fulfillment is preferential to excitement and offers some practical tips that you can implement in your business to help you keep your emotions in check and you carrying checks to the bank!

Ready, Willing & Able…To Change?!

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

This is a short article I wrote about WILLINGness. The article addresses the insanity of how we get in our own way by being UNwilling. You don’t have to believe something is for the better to be willing to try it. If what you are doing isn’t working for you then do something different–it doesn’t matter what it is. See also Packing Your Belief Bags, an article I wrote for the Midland Reporter-Telegram on resistance to change.

Packing Your Belief Bags

Monday, July 3rd, 2006
Have you ever found yourself following a rule and then wondering where you got that rule? Rules that say things like it takes money to make money, or that business and personal dont mix?

This is the seed of thought for this article that talks about our resistance to change and that resistance being driven by our “bag of beliefs”. So often, we inadvertently limit ourselves because we are hanging on to old ideas by binding ourselves to rules, of which we have no idea where we got them or how to let go of them. This article offers a very simple look at this process and suggests a way to take inventory of the beliefs that drive your business.

UNwrapping the Gift of YOU-Tumbleweed

Wednesday, May 31st, 2006

This was the last article I wrote for the Tumbleweed and it is fairly personalized to that effect, although there are some great morsels to glean from this article. It is somewhat specific to women, as most of the readers of the Tumbleweed are women. The article walks the reader through a powerful self awareness exercise and just puts a very positive spin on balancing all of our affairs by accepting that we are always exactly where we are supposed to be. See also UNwrapping the Gift of YOU-MRT, a similar article that I wrote for the Midland Reporter-Telegram.

Change Your Thinking, Change Your Business: The Power of Coaching

Monday, May 1st, 2006

We ALL have blind spots, including me. I do not get an immunity pill from challenges in my business just because I am an Entrepreneur Coach. This article addresses some of the insane thinking patterns we can get into as Entrepreneurs and is one of the few articles I wrote in the first person singular. It came to be borne out of frustrations with my own business and at a time when I was desperately seeking clarity and direction.

Blueprint Your Success

Sunday, April 30th, 2006

This article marrys the idea of spring cleaning with business and addresses “blueprinting” as designing your druthers, your dreams as you would have them if there were no obstables in your way. It focuses on the journey of the process rather than the destination (see also Entrepreneur: Not for Whiners! and UNwrapping the Gift of YOU-MRT that I wrote for the Midland Reporter-Telegram). It also speaks to society’s programming and breaking the mold of that programming.

Empresario – Bad for Your Health?

Friday, April 28th, 2006

This article addresses how different of an environment it is to be a business owner rather than working for someone else. Often times, new business owners will get into disappointment fairly quick because they had expectations that things would go according to plan and, of course, they never do. The article sets forth the idea that to understand getting into business will be difficult and to experience it being difficult are two very different things.
