The Safari of Starting a Business

Friday, September 30th, 2005

This was the first article I wrote for the Junior League of Midland’s publication, the Tumbleweed. I had the privilege of writing all seven articles for them as one of their Feature writers for the 2005/2006 editorial term which began in September and ended in May with November, December and January combined into one Holiday issue.

This particular article makes the analogy of starting a business to a safari. It glimpses of what it takes to get started in business, but on a deeper level, it also examines many of the obstacles that prevent people from pursuing their dream in the first place.

This article was published in the September 2005 issue of the Tumbleweed.

Financing a Business: Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Basket

Monday, September 5th, 2005

Of all the things I speak about with my clients, this topic is one that gives me the most joy. This article attempts to dispel the myth that you must have your finances worked out before exploring your options. It examines the four basic ways to self-capitalize a business and offers suggestions for developing a well balanced capitalization plan for your business.

This article was published in the Midland Reporter-Telegram on September 4, 2005.
